Mermaid

Mary don’t be shy

to see the moon again

for we were loving those nights

and I would still take you home

if only to keep

a sweet memory

Beside the window

your fingers tested the glass

for coldness - Shall we swim now

or stay? - You can stay Mary

here combing and combing

your fair hair to silk

Just there in the sun

surely you were a mermaid

Yes, you did capture my heart

to leave me lost on the shore

but there is no blame, for

I could not change

In my dreams

see your face again

you look from the clear blue sea

Mary, neither did you change

as we swam out – no, you

found your element

I should know better

but I still watch the waves

looking out for ever - Well

you did not betray my love

you did not leave - only

could not return

Don’t be shy Mary

for we promise the moon

and will give it just to swim

the silver path for a while

and to keep in the dark sea

a sweet memory
